Five Benefits of Refacing Your Cabinets

If you want to improve the style of your home, one place to begin is your cabinet work. You have cabinets throughout your entire home. It may seem like a daunting task to upgrade your cabinets and it would cost thousands of dollars in order to replace each one of them. It most likely would be a lot cheaper for you to consider a refacing project of your cabinets. And if you don’t have any idea how to resurface your own cabinets than I’d recommend that you get some hired help to get the job done. Refacing your cabinets has many great benefits to your home.Benefit #1 – Refacing your cabinets allows you to keep the room in working conditions. The workers will not have to tear out your cabinets creating a non-working room. Even if they’re redoing your kitchen area they will most likely leave all the shelving which means you don’t have to empty everything and they will take off the fronts of the cabinets and drawers. They will take the fronts elsewhere to get the work done which means your kitchen is still available for use.Benefit #2 – The cost difference between refacing and replacing is huge! Cabinets are built to last a long time which in turn means that they are very expensive. Since resurfacing normally just entails redoing the paint or just replacing the fronts of all the cupboards and drawers it cuts back on the costs by a lot.Benefit #3 – You still get to choose what your cabinets will look like. If you have moved into a house and have never liked the cabinets getting them refaced means that you get the cabinets you want without have to fork out all the cash.Benefit #4 – Refacing your cabinets adds value to your home. If you are looking to sell your home making small changes to your kitchen or bathroom areas can really increase the value of your home. People spend the most time in the kitchen and the bathroom is one of higher valued rooms in evaluating the worth of a home.Benefit #5 – As good as new. When the professionals resurface your cabinets they will get rid of some of those nicks and dents that your children may have characteristically put into the cabinets. The hired work should use panels to cover those up while they resurface creating a brand new look to your worn cupboards. The benefits could go on for refacing your cabinets but the most important part is for you to get the desired outcome. Make sure you communicate with the professionals so you can get exactly what you want for your cabinets inside your home.

Perry Home Kitchen Remodeling Project

Home, Ugly, HomeYes, home is where the heart is. The kitchen is the heart of the home. Our home and kitchen is the heart of a big, messy remodeling project. We decided to update our kitchen with new cabinets, countertops, and floors. While we were at it, we also want to revise the traffic flow, which means moving some of the plumbing and electrical. My husband, Randy, decided we would do the remodeling ourselves rather than contract someone to do it. He once built an entire house and it is still standing after 20 years, so I trust he can manage the workload provided I supervise. The remodeling of our kitchen has been underway for 9 weeks and we have things torn out and scattered everywhere. I’ve given up on keeping the house clean. Keeping up with parts of the house and where we put the groceries this week is hard enough. We decided to take things in small segments so Randy didn’t have to take time off from his day job to work at home. He does what he can at night and on weekends. It’s slow but steady progress. Our kitchen has partially-painted walls-some with the old paint color, some with the new paint color and some with new drywall that needs to be mudded or sanded. There’s more paint on the old vinyl floor than there is on the walls in some places. Sanding dust decorates every flat surface in the house and each piece of furniture has smiley faces and butterflies etched by little fingers and signed by the grandkids. What a work of art!The remaining old base cabinets with their tired, worn-out faces are embarrassed by beautiful new wall cabinets we’ve installed. Peeling, cracked countertops sit precariously atop old base cabinets that had to be pulled away from the wall to allow access for tearing out the old bulkhead and hanging the new upper cabinets Dishes are stacked all over the dining room. We even have small appliances in the living room. The rest of the newly-assembled IKEA cabinets are in the spare bedroom waiting their turn in the line up.Randy turned me loose to pick out the new countertop, so I went to the granite yard and bought a large, costly chunk of rock. With the template man coming next week, we have to get the terrazzo tile floor laid this weekend so we can install the base cabinets for a proper measurement. That means we have to move the sink and its plumbing to the other side of the dishwasher by Tuesday. No problem. Who needs sleep? You may see photos of the work in progress at http://www.angelfire.com/poetry/von_von/perry_kitchen_remode/.
